Come on over >> daphnelim87.110mb.com <<
Last week was truly a busy one for me. For one thing, Marina came over to stay. That wasn’t too bad as we had planned everything out and all there was left was for her to get over here.
Then suddenly I received notice that I had to attend classes for the week! Not only that, my holidays weren’t due to be over for another 2 weeks yet and those were the only 3 classes for the module that I had applied over the whole semester. So instead of having it any other week, they had to have it in the week that we had planned so carefully… my hidden Sweeney wants butchering…. Basically the classes were 9 to 5 with a one hour lunch break and a presentation at the end of the week… I’ve never done one week presentations before, so basically I guess I screwed up… but that’s the last part, so I’ll start at the beginning…
Hoomanz in order of appearance:
Alvin - housemate
Marina - best friend
Jason - housemate and designated driver to Phillip Island
Justin - long time friend
Yan - resident master (lookout for the place I live in)
Glen – housemate
Veenah – Marina’s friend from Monash
Cecilia – business module friend
Joel – primary school friend
So, on the Friday night beforehand, I decided to check my mail (cause Alvin was checking his on my laptop due to him not having internet access) and I found out that I had classes on the following week, which didn’t worry me too much until my brain kicked in and reminded me that it was the same date as the time Marina was coming. The classes were on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9 to 5, and seeing as Marina was going to be here from Monday noon to Friday morning, it cut out about half the time that was carefully planned…. Spent the whole night debating on whether or not to drop the module (which I didn’t in the end but it was helpful I guess), and sms-ed Marina the next morning about the predicament. The main idea was to go to Phillip Island on Wednesday, so at first I told her that they should go without me. There was a change to Thursday, but Jason had to work on that day so no change in that part of the plan… I had to get ready for class as well…
Monday, woke up after 7 after sleeping at 2. Ate breakfast while preparing lunch, got changed, freshen up and stuff pack my notes, and walk to a new building which was 10 minutes more walking time than I was used to. Class was ok, but in a field I was not familiar with. At noon I had cold pasta on the street with the cold wind blowing while smsing Marina who’d just gotten out of the airport and telling her to go to my place because I’ve set Alvin up to open the door for her. Then went back in to brave the class until 5, getting into groups and making sure we were on the same wavelength on the things that needed research. One thing I didn’t have to do was make a great escape… cause everyone else in the group cabut-ed before me. So I rushed over to the library to meet up with Marina and Justin and take a walk around the city for a bit. Brought them to Chinatown for dinner where we did some major changes in the plan over exploding dumplings Chinese broccoli(?) and spare ribs. More walking along the Yarra River then headed back to my place to sneak past the resident master because they didn’t allow other people staying over. Discussed with the rest of the people going for the Island trip and decided to go the next day.
Tuesday, woke at 7, took breakfast and forced Marina to eat something. Notes that Marina generally looks stoned in the morning even with a slice of bread feeding. Bumped into Yan on the way to Victoria Market to buy sandwich stuff and went back to my place to make sandwiches for lunch. Then walked out to the city with Marina, Justin and Alvin to try and get cheap transportation for driving to Phillip Island. Bumped into a bit of trouble cause the prices went up by +30 overnight. So Alvin volunteered to go find out more prices from other agencies while we got junk food for the trip. Then headed back and hung around at home while luckily Alvin managed to get a cheap van. Waited for Jason to get from work and Glen ready, had a quick lunch and started that journey to Phillip Island, with all the garbage we can bring. Reached Phillip Island at a good time because we were going at 120km/h most of the time… Got there in time to see small (and I mean small) groups of fairy penguins take the risk of going across the beach to the bushes in the midst of winter under the watchful eyes of 70 or so spectators. So much less in number than before… after almost everyone left, we head back to the city to have dinner in Lygon Street at an (unfortunately) not so good restaurant. Got home, hoo-haa’d for a while ‘til 12, at which time Justin left for his place after deciding to go for a Great Ocean Road trip the next day. Marina read a little on where underpants came from and went to sleep. I did some homework ‘til 2 when my eyes refused to cooperate and went to be myself.
Wednesday, woke after 6:30am and decided to get more work done. Marina got ready to go out to Great Ocean and left with Justin and Alvin to return the van. Then Alvin came back in the rain and told me that the two have left for the road. Then I left for class. This time I had lunch in the comfort of the building with my food microwaved. After class headed back to do more work/surf the net. After 6 Alvin decided to cook, so I joined him to make a meal for 3 as Justin had a preplanned dinner. Marina came back in time for dinner. Then I think we just hung around until Justin came back.
Thursday morning we did another trip to Victoria Market where Marina got postcards, passion fruit and candy apples because there wasn’t much in terms of specialties to bring back to Malaysia. Brought them both to Melbourne Central to take the train to Clayton where they’d met up with Veenah to show them around Monash Victoria. I spent the rest of the day in the group discussion that was a little disappointing (because I think we could have done better). Around 4:30, I walked back to my place with Cecilia, a new friend from the module and waited for the other two to return. Around 5 to 6 Marina got back from reading the paper and freezing at Flagstaff garden and Cecilia left. Then we sort of hung around until 7 because we’re supposed to go out for dinner with Joel. Marina tried to send and email but the internet was acting stubborn. Went for dinner at Stalactite, a diner near Chinatown and chit chatted about old versus new times. Dropped Joel off at his place and went home. Marina took a walk along Flagstaff at night and spotted possums while Justin checked his mail at my place, after which both of them went gallivanting out in the middle of the night while I got my work settled. I must have dropped off because I had to wake up to open the door for them. Poor dears got rained on while sneaking around Melbourne Uni. Said my goodbyes to Justin because they were leaving the next morning and I’d be at class. And I think I dropped off again… cause the next thing, it was morning.
Friday, woke at half past 6. Marina was getting ready and doing last packing. We hiked the bed up to its normal position and said our goodbyes. I tried to get Marina to take the leftover junk food but oh well. At half past 7 we said out goodbyes and Marina walked off into… I’d like to say sunrise but the sun was well up and covered by clouds… so she walked around the bend. I cleared up a little bit and did more work… which in the end made me just in time for class without my notes for presentation. Consequently, I had to run back during lunch time and get them. Thanks to Cecilia’s tram card I made it back in time for the presentations; which was not too good. We managed to pass anyway. After which I went out for dinner with Alvin and left my scarf at the diner (it wasn’t there the next day).
And now I don’t think I even want to write anymore, so I’m just going to say, that was my busiest week since last year and leave it at that.
I’m going back to sleep now, seeya later space cowgirl~

Just posting stuff i need to do
1. Confirm & book plan for 4 day holiday with Marina, Justin, Veenah, etc.
2. Dragon mascots for cousin
3. Family portrait for cousins family
4. Update personal portfolio site
5. Get a job
6. Finish up ‘Steampunk FairyTale’ entry for :devnJoo:’s competition
7. Prepare prototypes for next semester final project
8. Pay next semesters tuition fees
9. Improve on Flash skills
There’s only 8 things on the list but they’ll take a whole lot of time
If anyone can capture that rapscallion called Time… it keeps running away from me…
Ara… i wanna make dim sum again… -_-
What do you do when you’ve finished your semester ahead of everyone else, in a foreign land with no KL, Zoo Melaka or high school buddies to go kayaking with?
One semester is too short for people who’ve been in a course for 3 years and only do they’re last with other strangers, to get together and have proper holiday plans…. So, with the Chinese provision shop and Queen Victoria Market so near, the weird ‘Lim Dim Sums’ were born… ever so lacking the power of Chemical X…. Skip to the bottom for the final snap shot off it~
SO~
Ingredients:
500g lean mince meat
2 eggs
1 carrot
A handful of white mushrooms
A handful of lotus root cuts
A handful of shrimp(peeled)
1 shoot of spring onion
1 packet of dumpling skins(circular), ~50 skins
1 cup of oil
Bottle chili (the type you’d eat with chicken rice)
Method:
Take carrot, mushrooms, lotus root, shrimp and spring onion and chop finely
Crack and beat eggs til well mixed
Put mince meat into a large bowl and knead with eggs
Sprinkle chopped ingredients into meat mix - mix well
Add chili to meat mix, mix well and put aside - portion is optional, but i added 4 tablespoons here ^^
Remove dumpling skins from packet - make sure the skins aren’t still frozen, room temperature and can be peeled off easily
Keep hands semi-oiled while handling skins
Oil the sides of the skins - if the skins are thick (0.1cm) you should be able to stretch the sides a little
Put a tablespoon of meat mix in the middle
Pull edges of skin to the top and close by twisting together
With the portions on top, you should be able to make at least 35 dumplings, i made 38.
To save, lightly oil outside of skin and put in fridge. When taking them out to steam, gently remove each one without tearing the skin
Steam for 15 to 20 minutes on a slow/medium fire
Unfortunately my skins didn’t stick to the mix so it split a little, i’ve no idea how to change this ^^; But it tastes great anyway~ so says my housemates, my cousins and my stomach
Hmm… hope anyone who actually tries this gets the same yummy taste ^^ I’ve never been more proud of my… ‘cooking’?
Happy Dim Sum-ing!
DL
